UK: Voting intention – 23rd July 2021

Conservatives maintain eight-point lead but Johnson’s ratings drop

Headline: The Conservatives retain their eight-point lead for a third poll in a row. The Tories are on 43% (unchanged), with Labour on 35% (unchanged), the Lib Dems on 8% (+2), and the Greens on 5% (-1).

However, Boris Johnson’s job approval is now -13, down from -8 in our last poll, with 34% approving (-3) and 47% disapproving (+2). Johnson’s numbers on a variety of other leadership attributes have fallen as well, such as being trusted to take the big decisions (52% disagree, 28% agree that this describes him).

Keir Starmer’s job approval remains steady and on -6, with 30% approving (+1) and 36% disapproving (n/c).

Covid update:

Net approval of government’s Covid handling sits at -16%, a drop from -6% in our last poll and the lowest net rating since February.
