Mission 44: National School Satisfaction Study

New research from Opinium for Mission 44 reveals the extent to which more work needs to be done to ensure that all young people are listened to, supported and feel safe at schools.
Opinium conducted an online survey of 3,021 nationally representative people aged 11-21 in Great Britain, and 2,009 nationally representative parents of children aged 11-18 who go to school or college.
Some of the key findings include:
- Almost one in five (17%) young people say that school or college is a place where they don’t felt safe or welcome, rising to 28% of students with Special Educational Needs, and 30% of disabled students
- One in five (22%) say their experience at school or college has negatively affected their mental health and wellbeing, rising to 26% among girls, 36% among SEN students and 38% among disabled students
- Three in ten (30%) do not feel comfortable speaking to staff about how happy or not they are feeling
- Two in five (41%) young people say their school or college has not listed to their worries or wellbeing (% is a combination of those that said they have experienced this often, frequently or sometimes)
- A third (34%) of parents believe their child’s learning needs or preferences are not being met
