Survey Privacy Policy
Opinium Research LLP (“Opinium Research”, “we”, “us”), and Reinsurance Group of America, Incorporated (“RGA”) are committed to protecting your privacy and we take our responsibilities regarding the security of our survey participants’ information seriously. The following privacy policy sets out how we use and protect the information you provide us as a respondent to a survey offered on behalf of our client RGA.
We promise to treat your information as confidential and that we never share your personal details with any other organisation other than as described in this policy.

We, Opinium Research, are conducting this research on behalf of RGA and in collaboration with Dynata.

Dynata (160 Queen Victoria Street, London, EC4V 4BF, United Kingdom) are one of the largest global suppliers of online sample and have been a trusted partner of ours for over 10 years. For this project, we will only handle pseudonymised data from Dynata.
For the purpose of the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and the Data Protection Act 2018 (together “Data Protection Legislation”), we are the ‘data processor’, (i.e. the company which processes personal data on behalf of the controller), and RGA is the ‘data controller’ that determines the purposes and means of the processing of your personal data. Dynata is the sub-processor.

Your information
If you have registered to Dynata’s Opinion Panel and decide to take part in this survey, we will collect and process the following data about you:
- Respondent ID
- Demographic information, such as age, gender, number of children, income level
- Health information, such as medical conditions
- Consumption of alcohol, tobacco, controlled substances, or nicotine substitutes
- Height and weight
- Lifestyle information, such as frequency of exercise, energy levels, sleeping habits
- Insurance purchase patterns
- Response time to answer questions
Please note that only a limited amount of your personal information will be provided to RGA. The information that we will disclose to RGA will contain your responses to the survey questions, however these responses will be pseudonymised, meaning they will not be used by RGA in a manner which will allow your identification and determination of your individual responses.
Use of your information
The information we collect in this survey is primarily used by us to provide RGA with market research services as part of our business with clients.
As part of this survey, we will share your psuedonymised responses with RGA who will use it to understand behavioural patterns related to individuals’ health.
We will use Your Information in accordance with the Data Protection Legislation, pursuant to one or more of the following legal bases:
- Your explicit consent where we process your answers, in particular disclosing sensitive information as part of health-related questions. Please note that we will provide you with an option to select “Prefer not to say option” where questions may be sensitive.
- Where it is in our or RGA’s legitimate interest to do so and we have indicated to you what that interest is, especially where we disclose your pseudonymised responses to RGA, as well as when RGA uses them for the market research.
- Compliance with a legal obligation where we might need to provide response to a court order, police or other law enforcement agency.
Disclosing your information to third parties
Opinium Research LLP conducts market research on behalf of its clients. Information supplied by you will be disclosed to RGA in pseudonymised form, and will not be used to identify you, or to contact you without your permission.
We employ other companies and individuals to perform functions on our behalf including IT suppliers such as QuenchTec survey software and Microsoft Azure. We do not share your personal information with our agents or suppliers except as is necessary in order to enable them to provide us with a service and then only pursuant to our express instructions.
We may also share your personal information with a purchaser or potential purchaser of our business and in some circumstances, we may have to disclose your personal information by law, either because a court or the police or other law enforcement agency has asked us for it, to enforce our legal rights, or to prevent fraud.
Opinium Research LLP does not sell, trade, or rent Your Information to others. We do not disclose Your Information to third parties without consent unless legally required to do so.
Storing your information
We will store and process Your Information in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
Your Data Rights
You have certain rights regarding your personal information, which include: the right to access your personal information; rectify the information we hold about you; erase your personal information; restrict our use of your personal information; and object to our use of your personal information. If the legal basis for our processing your personal data or special category data is consent or explicit consent, as appropriate, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. Should you have any complaints about how we handle your personal information, please contact us at gdpr@opinium.com. Should we be unable to resolve your complaint and you wish to take your complaint further, you may do so by contacting the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
Security to protect your information
You should take appropriate steps to protect Your Information: You should ensure that any machine that you use to provide data to the Opinium is secure and bona-fide. We advise you to ensure that your browser software is up to date, that you have appropriate anti-virus software and that you are in a private environment (e.g. free from ‘shoulder-surfers’) before providing any confidential personal information.
We employ security measures to protect Your Information from being accessed by unauthorised persons and against unlawful processing, accidental loss, destruction and damage. We will retain Your Information for a reasonable period or as long as the law requires.
Secure sockets layer (‘SSL’)
Opinium survey data is held on secure servers. All data will be securely transmitted and encrypted over the Internet by using SSL encryption or such other standard as may, in time, replace it.
Changes to our privacy policy
We may revise this Privacy Policy at any time.
