Public Attitudes to Trade with Israeli Settlements
New Opinium polling for the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) explores British public attitudes towards Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, including support for restrictions on trade and views on the future of Israel and Palestine.
The research finds that 46% of UK adults support banning trade in goods with Israeli settlements, compared with 18% who oppose such a ban. Support outweighs opposition across the political and regional groups covered by the research. The polling also finds that 16% consider targeting Israeli settlements to be antisemitic, while a two-state solution remains the most popular of the outcomes tested: 40% favour a Palestinian state alongside Israel, compared with 12% who favour a single shared state and 8% who prefer the status quo of Israel without a Palestinian state.
The findings have been published by ECFR as part of its analysis of UK policy towards Israeli settlements and received national media coverage in The Guardian.
