Public attitudes to farm animal welfare
New polling from Opinium for the Conservative Animal Welfare Foundation explores the importance the British public places on farm animal welfare and support for measures to improve welfare standards.
The research finds that 87% of UK adults believe protecting the welfare of farmed animals is important, while one in six place farm animal welfare among the five highest priorities for Government. There is also strong support for practical reforms, with 70% backing stronger UK farm animal welfare laws and 76% supporting mandatory labelling showing the welfare conditions in which animals were reared.
The polling also points to potential political benefits from action on the issue: 43% say they would be more likely to support a political party committed to advancing farm animal welfare, compared with just 5% who say they would be less likely.

Research methodology
Opinium conducted an online survey of 2,050 UK adults aged 18+ between 24th and 26th June 2026. Results were weighted to be nationally and politically representative of the UK adult population.
