Opinium polling with Lansons and The i Paper
Opinium conducted polling in partnership with Lansons and The i Paper examining public attitudes towards last week’s local elections, the economy, Europe, and the Government’s fiscal priorities. The findings suggest voters were more likely to be motivated by national rather than local issues, while the public remains divided on key trade-offs around defence spending, welfare, and closer ties with the EU.
The polling also found broad concern about inflation and rising costs as the biggest perceived barrier to economic growth and job creation in the UK.
Methodology
Opinium surveyed a nationally representative sample of 2,000 UK adults online between 8th and 12th May 2026. Weighted to be nationally representative. Full data tables can be found here.
