Research on AI-generated content regulation
Opinium conducted research exploring public attitudes towards the regulation of AI-generated content, including views on the responsibilities of technology companies, governments and regulators in preventing online harms. The research examined support for a range of potential policy measures, including mandatory AI safety standards, stronger regulatory powers, education about AI-generated content, and new laws targeting the creation of non-consensual AI-generated sexual images.
The findings provide insight into how the UK public believes AI should be governed as the technology becomes increasingly widespread and its potential harms become more prominent in public debate.
