As a tumultuous year draws to a close, Opinium Research has once again polled the nation on who they deem to be the ?heroes and villains? of 2016, and have sought views on the most memorable events, and predictions for the New Year.
Britain’s†heroes in 2016
Team GB captured the nation?s hearts with their performance at this year?s Rio Olympics (25%), setting an Olympic record as the only country to increase its medal tally at the summer Games immediately following the one it hosted, with a grand total of 67 medals won.
Andy Murray came second in our list of heroes of 2016
World number one Andy Murray came second (21%) beating out last year?s winner the astronaut Tim Peake.
The villains of 2016
President elect and retail mogul Donald Trump has topped the ?villains? list this year (39%), following his controversial election win. Russian President Vladimir Putin and disgraced South African sprinter Oscar Pistorius round out the top three on this year?s naughty list (both 33%).
