Mental Health & Gaming – US

In October 2021, Opinium undertook research of a wide variety of US gamers, exploring how and why they play, and their attitudes to gaming in general. We’re excited to introduce our first report in this series, which will explore Mental Health and Gaming.

The report found that three in five (62%) of gamers say that gaming improves their mental health, and on top of that, gamers who spend longer playing games are more likely to have better mental health.

Key findings include:

  • Nearly three in five gamers (57%) agreed that gaming helps to reduce stress.
  • Two in five (39%) gamer parents play video games with their children – and see it as a bonding experience.
  • Puzzle games were most commonly played among those in both the highest and lowest bracket for mental health
