Old Games, New Boom: Why Retro Games are Winning

As iconic franchises like Pokémon and Sonic the Hedgehog celebrate landmark anniversaries, retro gaming isn’t stuck in the past; it’s keeping up with the present.
Gamers are more likely to have played a game released over 10 years ago than a brand‑new title in the past six months, and the trend shows no signs of slowing. Over three-quarters of retro gamers expect to spend the same or more time playing classic games in the months ahead, while the vast majority of retro gamers return to games they have already completed.
Far from being driven by nostalgia alone, gamers are choosing older titles for their value, offline play and gameplay quality, with over two-fifths of retro gamers saying they offer better value than most new releases.
