Opinium x Greenpeace: People Are Calling for Stronger Forest Action

Forests are central to our planet’s health and to the global response to climate change. As the climate crisis deepens, deforestation continues to accelerate.
This was the focus of a new global study developed by Greenpeace International, in collaboration with Opinium, exploring how people around the world perceive forest protection and what they expect from their governments and global leaders.
The findings show a clear and consistent message: people want stronger action to protect forests. Across regions and demographics, there is widespread belief that governments, businesses and international institutions must do more to safeguard forests and support the communities who depend on them.
The research also highlights the importance of recognising Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities for their role in protecting forests and ensuring they have the support and resources needed to continue that work.
As world leaders prepare for COP30 in Brazil, this research serves as a timely reminder that public expectations are rising and that protecting forests is seen as essential to any credible climate strategy.
